THE C&S 50 CAL MINI-CANNON
Well winter is here and just too cold to go out in the shop and work on the honda trike or go to the range so what is one to do. Well kind of thought about black powder shooting hear a while back but I think the rifle would be way too much for me to handle and the pistol would have the same problems as with any of the revolvers in respect to adaptability. But sure liked that big boom and smoke. My friend Steve says "why not build a mini-cannon ? Well now that sounds interesting so got on the internet and did some looking and found several references so my task begun. My friend Marc said he could turn the barrel and I think I can make the carriage. Here we go.

This is what I used as a model, it is a 1842 6 pounder. Mine will resemble it pretty close but will have a little different barrel. I found some 8 inch Alder wheels on e-bay as I knew I wasn't talented enough to get one right let alone two. the rest is also Alder and will stain so is a little darker. Marc is making me a 10 inch barrel 1 3/4 inch at the breach end and tapers to 1 inch at the muzzle end. boring for a 50 cal ball will leave 1/4 inch meat at the muzzle end. I am playing with a couple different electronic fuse lighting systems as I want to be hiding behind the van when this thing goes off, at least the first time.

Now just waiting for the barrel. I still need to put all the "bling" on it, like brass trunnion caps, wheel plates and other "real looking" stuff
check back in a few weeks
